If you’ve seen the show How It’s Made they generally glance over the part showing how products are wrapped. To us this is just as interesting as how something is made, and often a product is just as difficult to wrap as it is to make. This featured product is an example of a simple product in a fairly complex package. The packaging serves to add shelf stability and appeal for the consumer while maintaining an efficient process and cost structure for the manufacturer.

The Process: There is a lot happening in a small footprint. Factory floor space is one of their greatest assets. Step One: Index the trays into the flight spaces of the wrapper. Step Two: Fold the upper flaps of the trays closed with split second timing and hold them down. Step Three: Convey the trays into the film former. Step Four: Individually wrap the trays. Step Five: Shrink the packs in the Vortex tunnel.
Speeds: These customer orders are big and the holiday season is short. This delivery window requires that the wrapping gets done fast and efficient. These packages move through this process at a speed of one per second!
Appearance: Consumers don’t buy food products that aren’t appealing to the eye. The shrink wrapping process must produce good looking packages. Part of this magic is the lap seal package. Using a forming plow and minimal film allows Conflex to create the best looking packages possible.
